We strongly believe structural design is an art. Creating a piece of art not only should be taught by integrated continuous coarse, but also requires the effort of the learner to practice the lessons. Designing a structure is closely interlocked with the concept of structural optimization. Little thing can make a big difference in the final response of the building.
What I represent in this coarse is the abstract of 5+ years of my experience in teaching structural design with ETABS. However working with the ETABS seems an easy job, surprisingly the frequency of errors and common mistakes has proven the opposite. In this coarse I try to represents common mistakes I have seen several times among my students. I hope reminding this mistakes can help other to make their modeling more accurate.
Briefly, this coarse has produced for 2 group of users who are at different levels. For occasional user, it is highly recommended to watch the basic level that make them ready to start the advanced level more confidently. The advanced level is aimed to structural optimization which is a delicate job to do. We hope this coarse will be useful as a source for motivated student who want to work on their optimization skills.
