Soil Stabilization Techniques

Soil stabilization is aimed to improve the shear strength parameters of soil, resulting in  a higher bearing capacity. In some cases soil layers are not stiff enough to tolerate the large amount of structural load.  Due to the complex nature of Soil, Stabilization is sometimes inevitable to ameliorate its physical properties. Stabilization not only increase the shear strength of a soil but also improve shrink-swell properties of a soil. as a result, it can be used as a useful approach to reduce permeability and compressibility of the soil. This article is aimed to give you a brief summary different stabilization methods. Generally there are several methods for Soil stabilization, including  mechanical stabilization and chemical stabilization.

Soil Stabilization Methods

To construct a durable pavement, the soil or gravelly material are required to be strong enough against tensile stresses and satisfies special specification. Adding  cementitious materials such as cement or lime, can results in a higher strength, lower permeability. These soil amelioration operation can be carried out by either in-situ or ex – situ stabilization.
